SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs knew they needed changes, and they used the NBA draft to start making some. The Spurs kicked off an unusually busy draft for coach Gregg Popovich by trading backup point guard George Hill to the Indiana Pacers for their first-round pick, 6-foot-7 forward Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State. San Antonio then picked Texas guard Cory Joseph at No. 29 overall. Although Hill has always played backup to Tony Parker during his three NBA seasons, Popovich has |

Seeded eighth in the Western Conference, Memphis not only won its first playoff game in team history, they also dispatched the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs. Memphis eventually was eliminated in the second round by the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deciding seventh game. | Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly traded backup guard George Hill to the Indiana Pacers for the draft rights to Kawhi Leonard. Several media sources reported the trade, which has yet to become official. The Spurs also obtained Indiana's 42nd overall pick in the draft. Hill, the 26th overall selection by the Spurs in 2008, will make a return to his hometown. The Indianapolis native played college ball at IUPUI. He has missed just 15 games over his three seasons |

Some of these teams include the "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons, Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls and the pre-Tim Duncan era San Antonio Spurs. Even teams like the 2005-06 Heat can fall under this category as it had a collection of aged stars who had flamed out in the postseason with previous teams and were looking for one last shot at glory. The same can be said of the most recen |

Thu Jun 9 18:31:52 2011 EST |
| San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Mike Mitchell, a former forward with the San Antonio Spurs, passed away after a battle with cancer at the age of 55 on Thursday. Mitchell was drafted 15th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1978 and he played there until being traded to San Antonio on December 24, 1981. It was in that season that he was named to the All-Star team as he averaged 24.5 points and 6.1 rebounds over 82 games. He ranked eighth in the NBA in scoring that season. After leaving the |

James was a one-man team swatted away by three great players, his Cleveland Cavaliers held to the worst offensive performance in finals history and swept aside by the San Antonio Spurs. The series drew the worst TV ratings ever and ended with James admitting his team was simply overmatched, that nothing could have been done to change the outcome. That led him to Miami for a partnership with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, a |

It was reminiscent of the 2003 San Antonio Spurs when Gregg Popovich often used Speedy Claxton to close games when Tony Parker struggled en route to the NBA title. Parker, however, was in his second season, didn't come to the NBA with Westbrook's pedigree and wasn't honored as an All-Star |

The eighth-seeded Grizz have been able to serve as a bit of an escape for the locals, stunning the top-seed San Antonio Spurs in the conference quarterfinals and now giving the talented Thunder everything they could ask for in the semis. So far, the Thunder haven't been as good as they probably should've been. With the series shifting to Memphis now they'll find themselves in a similar predicament to what the San Antonio Spurs were in. If they don't manage to split, they're playoff run will come to an end in either Games 5 or 6. |
